The “farmer vs. hunter-gatherer” framing is a nice example of how this report explains things: TCF7L2, one of the best-studied genes for carbohydrate response, comes in versions that roughly track with how long a population’s ancestors relied on grain agriculture versus other food sources — which is a useful shorthand for why the same carb-heavy diet can work beautifully for one person and spike blood sugar for another.

How the report actually sorts your results

Instead of drowning you in raw data, a report like this sorts each trait into one of three lanes based on your genetic tendency relative to most people:

The detail everyone should know before reading any genetic report

Here’s the part that doesn’t get said often enough: a “worse response” to a macronutrient doesn’t mean that food is off-limits — it means your body may handle larger amounts of it less efficiently than average, which is a dial to adjust, not a rule to obey.

This is especially true for the eating-behavior traits in this report. A genetic tendency toward something like overeating or sugar cravings reflects biology among many contributing factors — not a character flaw, and not a diagnosis. If any of this resonates with a pattern you’re genuinely concerned about, that’s a conversation for a doctor or therapist, not something to self-diagnose from a DNA report.
